The Be a Man Campaign

Young men aren’t taught how to deal with most of their emotions and are mainly only taught to be stoic and to hold all of their emotions inside. As a result men struggle to thrive in our society in a truly healthy way.

Men are statistically 4 times more likely to commit suicide than women are, and nearly 72% of men feel as though they have to act within a certain frame of emotions. Men lack the ability to navigate life in a truly healthy way.

Be a Man is a social media campaign and website that targets young men from the ages of fifteen to mid twenties in a way that they can relate to, to help get them started down this path of emotional acceptance. At this age, young men are beginning to make decisions about who they are and how they will be in the world and 15% of Instagram’s demographic consists of young men within that age group.

Be a Man exists to promote positive messages about what being a man can be for the audience, while also providing them resources to continue to improve themselves and embrace emotional maturity.

The posts are written with the intent of reaching young men without talking down to them. The posts largely speak to the audience with a sense of levity, while occasionally dipping into a slightly more serious tone.

The Be a Man website would act as a next step for young men learning about the dangers of traditional masculinity. The Social media page will guide the audience to the website where they will be introduced to some of the negative statistics about how men live and encouraging them to breakaway from that mold and pointing them in the direction of mental health services.
